Ray of Sunshine

\
Since we've been back at college the weather has been pretty gloomy. Today was the first day it was sunny and nice, it was a perfect opportunity to wear my new $15 dress from Marshall's and enjoy the beautiful day!

Treasure Hunt Finds: Anthropologie Lost Time Skirt

Some of the best finds are the randomest finds that completely surprise you. While browsing the thrift store a few days ago, I came across a skirt with clocks on it and I thought it was really quirky and fun. It was extremely well made and I started to think it was maybe from a local boutique. Then I looked at the tag and noticed it was by Floreat, which sounded familiar but I wasn't sure. When I got home, I decided to look it up because it was so well made and practically new--it turned out this skirt was from Anthropologie! Which is amazing for one because everything by Anthropologie has a kind of whimsical feel to it and secondly...they are very pricey. This skirt originally retailed for $110. How much did I find it for................$4. Thrifting, everyone, is an amazing thing.

Anyway, it fit perfectly and is longer than what I usually wear but that's okay because I already have dreams of wearing it when I teach how to do time to my students when I am a teacher! Hahaha, clothes might excite me a little too much.

Happy Shopping!

Sophia

Rainy Day Daises

This dress is probably one of my favorite articles of clothing that I own right now. It's so fun and it's a good length. A lot of dresses coming out now are a little too short for comfort. Being more practical about length and making sure I will feel comfortable walking around the city or campus has saved me a lot of money when it comes to dresses. Whatever makes you feel comfortable! Anyway, this dress, which is from my favorite website ASOS, was originally $49 but I waited until it went on sale and got it for $19!
I already had my outfit all ready for the day but when Sarah and I got up to go downtown....it was thundering and pouring. We refused to not go and threw on some boots instead. I felt a little weird for wearing boots in August but when I didn't have to worry about my feet getting wet....I was happy I wore them.

So what's thrifted? Bag $4, Belt $2. Other outfit details: Dress, Asos

Have a great day,
Love,
Sophia

A Rainy Day Downtown

We live about 10 minutes away via EL train from Center City and our favorite place to go is usually first Chinatown then Old City. Since were going back to school soon, we're trying to soak up as much city as we can (even if that means we literally had to get soaked from the rain haha). We made a trip to Buffalo Exchange to sell some things there(we might be making a post about BE soon) and then headed to get some Pho and check out some of the shops. Typical city day.

Thrift Store Reviews: Our favorite, Super Thrift!

Out of the thrift stores we shop at, Super Thrift in Philadelphia is definitely our favorite. It's a well organized, well-priced store. There is a nice selection of all kinds of items and we are almost definitely bound to find something when we go.
Each day, the store has "half off" a certain color tag. The color will be hanging up in the back. This store is not one of those thrifts who cater to more "indie" customers, nor is it too dark and dusty. It is a family thrift store with all kinds of clothes. What is best is that things are priced independently. For example, some stores will make it so all dresses are say, $5. Not here! They range from super cheap to cheap.

The location is nice and easily accessible by Septa (the 89, or the Market-Frankford el stop Berks). It is at Aramingo Ave and York Street in "The Richmond Mall" plaza.

The majority of our clothing thrifted is most likely to be from this store. There is some light hunting through clothes to find some goodies, but it's always worth it!

(p.s. there's also a Mandee's here, a store we're also fans of  c: they always have good sales on shoes. )

Here is an article mentioning the store: http://murltemple.blogspot.com/2010/04/port-richmond-gets-super-thrifty.html

All in all we give this store  5/5!

Love,

Inspiration: Dorm Inspiration for this Year.

It's that time of year again...almost time to go back to college. I have about 15 or so days. Last year when it came to my dorm(well my side of the dorm), I kind of just brought a bunch of things that I liked and it just worked out. But I really wanted to approach it a different way this year. I wanted my bed less "busy." and more planned. Plus I had an extra pair of sheets that I didn't use last year that were white. I didn't want to use my pink from last year. Then my aunt gave me this fluffy white blanket and I decided to go from there. I decided to do my bed all white but mix it with different colored pillows. Last year I had a blend of different colors and different colored flowers everywhere. I am a really visual person and designing spaces is a really exciting time for me. This year I plan on keeping it more green and white with color touches. Here is some things that inspired me:

Of course, my dorm is not huge but it's enough to incorporate your own feel to it through things such as decorations, lights, mugs, and plates. :)
Maybe I'll post some pictures up once I am done!

Things We Love: Filtered Water Bottles

We are both constantly determined to drink those 8 cups of water every day. At the beginning of college last year, I bought three cases of water bottles because I drink a lot every day. However, they ran up fast and when you average in how much case after case costs, it can get a little costly for a college student budget. Not only that, all that plastic is not good for the environment. My roommate and I both realized this and wanted to change. Sarah was the first I know (being an Environmental Studies major) that started to use a BRITA water bottle. She convinced us that we should probably go out and get some. These bottles are reusable bottles that filter tap water and also make the taste a little better. Bam, you have purified water! Each one contains a filter that lasts about 300 refills or 2-3 months. Here is the one both my roommate and I have and recommend:
Filter Fresh Water Bottle from Rubbermaid
Pros: 1) Filters chlorine 2) BPA Free 3)You can put ice cubes in these as well!
These in particular run from $6-10. They are usually $10 but I have seen them on sale at Giant Food Market for $6 multiple times. I also know that they are carried by Kmart. If you can't find them in stores, they are also available on Amazon. Hopefully you find them in a store to save shipping.

Now here is the one Sarah had:
BRITA Water Filter Bottle
Pros: 1)Also filters chlorine 2)BPA Free 3)Recyclable
These also run under $10. They can be found at more stores like Shop Rite and Target. Also available online of course.

Now I have to say that there is another brand of filtered water bottles that I tried out but did not like. These are called The Bobble. They are very stylish looking with a completely clear body and colored filter. However, I did not like these at all. It is very hard to drink from and you have to squeeze the bottle very hard for the water to come out. I also did not enjoy the taste very much. Therefore, I would say either of the above two are much better and will get you drinking the amount of water that you should be.
While $10 seems a little hefty for a water bottle, in the long run it helps you out so much. You will no longer need to buy cases for up to months at a time and these can be taken anywhere.(like class and to the gym!)

Sophia

Poppy Flowers

When I found this dress, let's just say it did not look like this. I found this at the Goodwill in the children's section, let's start with that. It was guaranteed to be more childish-it came with two huge puffy sleeves on each side. However, I couldn't put it back. The cut out back was speaking to me and I knew it had some potential. Therefore, it came home with me and I snipped off those sleeves and then actually used the sniped off sleeve as a belt to pull the dress in more at the waist because it had a higher waist to begin with. Don't ever put down something that you think has some potential! ;) This bag is also thrifted, a find that I wear quite often because I love the color.

I hope you are all feeling lovely
Love,
Sophia

Thrifted: skirt and belt
I like the skirt's shape and the length, not too many skirts are this long. It's cute with an eclectic vibe. I also dig the pleats.
